ARRIVE ON TIME
We keep our entrance open so that all students stuck on MoPac can make it to class, however, we and all of our students appreciate each others’ timely arrival. First-time students and students who need to pay for class MUST arrive a minimum of 10 minutes before their scheduled class time, otherwise class starts late as the instructor has to help them in the lobby rather than starting class for the dozens of people in the room who arrived on time. It is at the instructor's discretion to allow new students in class who arrive less than 10 minutes before class. Please be considerate.
If you arrive late – it does happen, occasionally – there are 3 excellent, etiquette-friendly things to do:
1. Call ahead. Yogagroove’s phone number is 407-9909; put it in your cell phone! By calling ahead, you alert the instructor that you are on your way; for a crowded class, we'll even put your mat down (if it’s in storage) or a towel to mark your place.
2. Wait at the glass door between the lobby and the yoga room until the teacher has waved you in. It is entirely up to the teacher’s discretion to allow you into the class. Generally speaking, you will be allowed in before the end of half-moon or no later than 15 minutes after start time. Otherwise, it is better to wait until the next class. The breathing and the warm-up are incredibly important to the safety and effectiveness of your practice.
3. Begin immediately: Simply practice on the carpet until we reach a break and the instructor will tell you to get set up with your mat and towel.
“BEEPING IN”
Your Yogagroove ID tag will “beep” the scanner regardless of what program the computer is running, regardless of what window we are in, and regardless of what search field the program is running (as will your PetSmart id tag, your Gold's Gym membership tag, etc!) Please check with the people behind the desk before you “beep in” to make sure that the computer is ready for you. Please wait a moment afterwards to ensure that the computer got your information. This helps in many ways: if you have an account balance, or if your package has expired, we can let you know right then and there. If you are a new client, this gives us the chance to connect your gorgeous unsweaty face to your name.
For our busy evening classes, we occasionally activate a THIRD scanner! If you are not new and have no transactions to conduct, please come to the third scanner as directed by our fabulous instructors and volunteer staff.
PAY IN ADVANCE
First time students must pay before entering the yoga room. (The $28 Introductory Month is only available before the student enters the yoga room. Don’t be scared! It’s a great deal! Just go for it and come back 3 times!) Continuing students must pay in advance when their packages expire. (Hint: Buy online to SAVE 5% and avoid the crush at the front desk!) Clothing must be purchased and paid for before it is worn in the yoga room. Putting it “on your account” is fine but negative balances need to be reconciled as soon as possible.
PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO THE INSTRUCTOR
Just say “Hello” to give us your name and allow us a moment to get your name and face together. We love our students and love being able to give corrections by name. This is so much easier for us if we know who you are! We love our community and sense of community, and want all of our students to feel they belong. If you are new, or if your instructor is new to you, stop and say “hi,” and if we don’t recognize you, we’ll do the same!
ALERT THE INSTRUCTOR TO ANY CHALLENGES
Neck injury, spine injury, hip-knee-ankle injury, broken bones, recent illnesses, recent pregnancies, continuing breast-feeding, impending or current pregnancies, competitive sports practices, fears, worries, insecurities about the practice, negative experiences in other studios (or even in ours!), claustrophobia, dehydration, a big night out or a big weekend, just ate, haven’t eaten, odd muscle spasms, surgeries, arthritis, active military duty, life-long couch potato – any of these things (hopefully not all of them!!!) can affect your practice, and it is very helpful for the instructor to know about them. Obviously for some issues, we have to give “modifications,” or smaller bites of the postures while you work into your range of motion. For pregnancy and nursing, we have different postures (but oh, alas, you must be pregnant or nursing to do them, and only in the proper sequence!). For the mental and emotional challenges, we can be more helpful to you before than we can during; please just talk to us.
